Rs 591,000. That is the gap between the BYD Atto 2 Premium at Rs 7,290,000 and the Jaecoo J5 BEV Premium at Rs 6,699,000, and the cheaper car is the one with the bigger battery. NexGen Auto announced the J5 EV prices on 6 November 2026, and since then the Jaecoo J5 BEV vs BYD Atto 2 question is the first thing EV buyers in Pakistan are asking.
Our verdict: the J5 BEV Premium is the better value on paper. The Atto 2 still suits one kind of buyer, and the J5 Comfort at Rs 5,999,000 is the cheapest way into either showroom.
Jaecoo J5 BEV vs BYD Atto 2 price in Pakistan
| Version | Ex-factory price |
|---|---|
| Jaecoo J5 BEV Comfort | Rs 5,999,000 |
| Jaecoo J5 BEV Premium | Rs 6,699,000 |
| BYD Atto 2 Premium | Rs 7,290,000 |
BYD sells the Atto 2 here in one variant only. The J5 Comfort comes in Rs 1,291,000 under it.
All three figures are ex-factory. Registration, token tax and insurance sit on top, and in Punjab that adds a fair chunk to the bill, though the gap between the cars stays the same.
The J5 EV is assembled in CKD form at NexGen Auto's plant in Faisalabad, the same line that builds the J5 hybrid and the J7 PHEV.
Spec sheet: where the Rs 591,000 goes

|---|---|---|
| Battery | 45.12 kWh | 49.5 kWh |
| WLTP range | 323 km | 344 km |

| 0-100 km/h | 7.9 sec | 7.7 sec |
| DC fast charging | 82 kW | 130 kW |
| AC charging | 7 kW | 11 kW |

| Wheels | 17-inch | 18-inch |
| Airbags | 6 | 6 |
Torque is a near tie. On almost every other line the Jaecoo has the bigger number.
One warning on range figures. Jaecoo's own ads quote 405 km, but that is the NEDC test, which is far more generous than WLTP. Compare 344 km against 323 km and you are comparing the two cars fairly.
Can either one do Lahore to Islamabad on one charge?
No. The M-2 run from Lahore to Islamabad is roughly 370 km, and neither car's WLTP figure reaches it. Add 120 km/h motorway cruising and the AC running through a June afternoon, and real range drops further still.
Plan one charging stop in either car.
It accepts up to 130 kW from a DC fast charger. The Atto 2 tops out at 82 kW. Peak figures only hold for part of a charge and depend on the charger you plug into, but a ceiling 58% higher counts for a lot when you are sitting at a service area near Bhera waiting to get moving again.
The free 11 kW home charger: check your meter first
Jaecoo includes an 11 kW wall charger with the J5.
An 11 kW AC charger needs a three-phase supply. On a single-phase connection the practical limit is around 7 kW, the same as the Atto 2's maximum.
So if your house runs on single phase, both cars charge overnight at about the same pace. A J5 at 7 kW needs roughly seven hours from empty to full. That 11 kW figure only pays off if LESCO or your local power company has given you a 3-phase connection.
Speed breakers, Eid luggage and a family of five
Ground clearance is the difference you feel every day. J5: 184 mm. Atto 2: 150 mm.
Anyone who drives through the unmarked speed breakers in Lahore's housing societies, or down a village road to the family home at Eid, knows 34 mm is not a small number under a low EV floor carrying a battery pack.
Boot space follows the same pattern: 480 litres in the J5 against 380 in the Atto 2. Both seat five on an identical 2,620 mm wheelbase.
On safety, both have six airbags, adaptive cruise and autonomous emergency braking. The J5 Premium adds blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and a door opening warning, three things the Atto 2 Premium leaves out.
Where the BYD Atto 2 still makes sense
First, timing. BYD's Atto 2 has been on sale here since January 2026, its delivery time at about a month. J5 EV deliveries only start in January 2027.
Second, the Atto 2 has nearly a year on Pakistani roads behind it. The J5 EV has none yet, and nobody can tell you how its battery copes with a Multan summer until owners have lived with one.
Third, the cabin. BYD's 12.8-inch rotating screen and 8.8-inch driver display are a touch bigger than the J5's 8-inch cluster, and that screen swings between horizontal and vertical at the press of a button.
Which one should you buy?
Daily city driver on a tight budget: the J5 Comfort at Rs 5,999,000. Jaecoo hasn't yet published a full Comfort versus Premium feature list, so ask the dealer which safety features the Comfort drops before you decide.
Regular motorway trips, Lahore to Islamabad or Faisalabad: the J5 Premium. The 130 kW charging and bigger battery matter most on long runs.
Need the car before the new year, or want a model with an owner track record: the Atto 2 at Rs 7,290,000.
Family with a 3-phase meter at home: the Premium Jaecoo again, with the included charger running at its full 11 kW.
Questions customers ask us
Which is cheaper, Jaecoo J5 EV or BYD Atto 2?
The J5 EV. Its Comfort version costs Rs 5,999,000 and the Premium Rs 6,699,000, against Rs 7,290,000 for the Atto 2 Premium, all ex-factory.
What is the real range of the Jaecoo J5 BEV?
Jaecoo quotes 405 km on the NEDC cycle and 344 km on the stricter WLTP cycle. Expect less than the WLTP figure at motorway speeds in summer heat.
Is the Jaecoo J5 EV made in Pakistan?
It is assembled in Faisalabad by NexGen Auto from CKD kits.
J5 EV ya Atto 2, family ke liye kaun si behtar hai?
J5 EV. Boot: 480 litres against 380. Ground clearance: 184 mm against 150 mm. Price: Rs 591,000 lower for the Premium.
Can I charge the J5 at home on a normal connection?
Yes. On single-phase power the included charger runs at around 7 kW, which fills an empty battery overnight. Full 11 kW needs a three-phase supply.
If price per kilometre of range is what you care about, book a test drive of the J5 Premium first. If you want to be driving electric before January, the Atto 2 is the one sitting in showrooms now.
