Think About An Ordinary Journey

For a phone running maps for hours, compatible charging matters more than a large number printed on the charger. If passengers use different connectors, a multi-tip cable can save carrying several leads. A vent holder may suit your dashboard, provided the vent can support it and the phone doesn't block your view.

Extra sockets don't increase the car socket's electrical capacity. Check the combined load before running several devices, particularly a higher-draw accessory such as an inflator.

When To Replace A Cable Or Holder

A cable that only works when bent at an angle needs attention. So does a charger that becomes unusually hot, or a holder that drops the phone over bumps. Don't keep adjusting around a damaged connector.

Choose The Right Combination

Fast charging requires a compatible phone, charger and cable. Check all three. Magnetic holders may need a metal plate, and its position can interfere with wireless charging. Check the holder's instructions before sticking the plate to a case.

Setting it up

1. Seat the charger or splitter firmly in a compatible socket.
2. Choose a mounting position clear of the road view and controls.
3. Fit the holder to a suitable vent without forcing the louvre.
4. Attach any required plate as directed for the holder.
5. Route the cable away from the gear lever and handbrake.

A heavy phone can pull down a thin vent louvre. If the mounting point flexes, choose a more suitable position or holder instead of tightening it harder.
